HAWAIIAN SHOOTOUT SERIES - Program Funds Re-establish FAD

Re-establishing GG FAD as HS FAD

The funds raised by the 3rd Annual Kenny Takashima Halloween Shootout Program will be donated to the University of Hawaii’s Pelagic Fish Research Fund. This fund helps to underwrite research into the biology of open ocean fishes, so that they can be better managed and to help ensure that the resource will be strong in the future. This research fund is administered by Dr. Kim Holland of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. Dr. Holland is also the Principle Scientist for the State of Hawaii Division of Aquatic Resources. Dr. Holland has agreed that funds donated from this year’s Halloween Shootout will go towards re-establishing GG FAD (to be re-named HS FAD) which was at one time a very popular fishing location for Maui’s fishermen. On average, it costs about $9,000 dollars to construct and deploy a FAD.

Each year we hope to succeed in a similar venture such as this one. None of this could be possible without the support of each business advertising in this program. It’s obvious from the numerous ads that the fishing community is backing us.
