The Second Annual Kenny Takashima Halloween Shootout saw 56 teams for the winner take all one day event. With the Hot bite being around the N-buoy, all the boats headed to the north shore of Molokai to work the area located 6-miles off Halawa Valley.

The winning marlin weighing 312.8-pounds was angled by Bobo Leal fishing aboard the Tai Pan II 2 with Captain Steve Yamasaki out of Lahaina Harbor. Their first place fish was worth $47,600 to the team.

They had a blind strike on the short corner position as they worked the buoy. The marlin took the lure and jumped around the starboard corner. It headed up the side of the boat putting a big bow of line on the surface. As the marlin swam down swell, Steve motored the boat ahead with the fish keeping it off the starboard beam as it moved in a big circle.

Steve spun the boat after the marlin as Bobo picked up all the slack. After three 360-degree spins they were right there at the fish. The marlin came up off the starboard corner with Janine Carr grabbing the leader. A couple of wraps on the line by Janine and Race Mayers was able to secure their catch ending the fifteen minute fight..

Second place marlin weighed 264.8-pounds and was captured by Bill Haywood while fishing aboard the Maui Jim with Captain Tom Casey. Their team won free entry into next year’s tournament.

The next six places were only separated by 18-pounds.

The last boat to the scales was the Patricia Anne with the third largest marlin weighing 233.2-pounds by Mossman Brewster. He was fishing with Captain Jamie Ito. Just eight tenths of a pound away at 232.4-pounds was the fourth place fish by Jim Jones. He was aboard Moray with Captain Greg Ward. A four pound difference separated the fifth place marlin. It weighed 228.4-pounds by Guy Tau-A fishing aboard the Kyla Anne with Captain Amando Baula.

Sixth place marlin was another close weight of only four and a half pounds difference. Trevor Jones angled a 223.8-pound marlin aboard Slightly Perfect with Captain Ian McKelvey. The only off island boat with a qualifying marlin was the Ah Tina from Oahu. Captain Matt Kahapea teamed up with local angler Randy Kinores to hook a 218.8-pound fish for seventh place.

Two and a half pounds back at 215.2-pounds was the eight place marlin by Donniven Polender. He was fishing aboard Reel Hooker with Captain Dave Hudson. The last qualifying marlin weighing 102.6-pounds was by Don Johnson aboard Koa E Kea with Captain Matt Schweitzer.
